At Tandea, patients covered by the new reform pay only 10% of the reference price for eligible treatments, while the state covers the remainder. What does the enhanced high-cost protection mean?

• Fixed price ceiling. Dental care providers may not charge more than the official reference price. You pay 10%, and the state covers 90%.
• Available to patients aged 67 and over. The scheme applies from the year you turn 67.
• Exceptions. Examinations and preventive care are not included in the enhanced high-cost protection and are charged at the standard rate. However, you can still use the general dental care allowance (ATB) available to your age group.

Why was the enhanced high-cost protection introduced?

• A national dental care reform. This is Sweden’s most significant dental care reform in more than 20 years and prioritises older patients with extensive treatment needs.
• State funding. From 2026, the Swedish government will allocate approximately SEK 3.4 billion annually to fund the reform.
• Fairness and solidarity. The reform aims to make dental care more equitable and accessible, while limiting patients’ costs when extensive treatment is required.

What does this mean for Tandea patients?

As a Tandea patient, you can feel confident throughout the process, from assessment to treatment. A Tandea dentist will examine you to determine which treatments are eligible for the enhanced high-cost protection.

• A cost estimate based on the reference price. You pay no more than 10% of the applicable price for eligible treatment.
• Administrative support. Tandea can assist with applications and contact with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency when required.
